Speaker Biographies
Callum is currently the director of programmes for the Centre for Project
management at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and
Technology (UMIST). He is also the publisher for Configuration Magazine and
Chief Executive of the Lifecycle Management Forum. His primary research
focus is on the role of people in the managing of lifecycle configurations.
Outputs from his research groups are now proving that a lack of competent
people is becoming a major inhibitor to success in major projects.
Callum spent 12 years working in the management of configurations in a
variety of industries before moving into a research role, including spells
with BAESys and RHM. He was principal investigator on the multi-national
AdCoMS project (Advanced Config Management System) to develop a common CM
methodology for the European aerospace consortium.
During
the last couple of years Philip has been working on various CM assignments
at Ericsson. He started at the Configuration Management Competence Center (CMcc)
in 1997 which in the year 2000 was renamed to Configuration Management
Academy (CMA). Current assignments include global rollout for the Ericsson
CM & RM tool web interface for eMatrix called the eMAtrix Reference System
(MARS), being the Design Owner of the globally used CM web site at Ericsson
named CM Framework, holding ClearCase and Ericsson ClearCase courses and
acting as a mentor in the CM Certification program.
At the 8th SQM Conference in Cologne in April 2003, Philip spoke of how
CM and Requirement Management was used to keep track of the UMTS/WCDMA and
GPRS projects on total project level at Ericsson. The presentation was based
on experiences from being Configuration Manager for GPRS R3 Total Project
and the WCDMA(/UMTS) R2.1 project. Philip has also been working as a project
manager, ClearCase and Multisite consultant and teacher for various courses.
Kajsa
has been working within the CM area for over 12 years. She begun her CM
career at Celsius that delivered systems for the Swedish military. The focus
were on big development projects that ran over 6-10 years.
In 1999 Kajsa started at Ericsson working in development projects for the
mobile phone systems for the American market amongst other things. As CM she
was involved in preparing processes that would give a common way of working
for the Product Units located globally. During this time she got involved in
the development of the Ericsson Common Configuration Model (CM Framework).
She joined the CM Academy in 2001 and is now, amongst other things,
responsible for the CM Certification Program within Ericsson. Conducting
training and being a CM mentor are the two cornerstones in Kajsa's working
responsibility. Currently Kajsa is working as a project manager for the
global rollout project of the new standardized Ericsson web platform that
will replace all of the current Ericsson web sites.
Luc is TesCom's VP in charge of CM services worldwide. He has 18 years of
experience in conducting large CM projects such as implementing a tool based
CM solution at VoiceStream US, Leumi Bank, HP Israel and many others. He
also founded a leading CM company in Israel, Indic Systems and later the
global CM division at TesCom. He has contributed to the establishing of the
CM as a recognised formal discipline in Israel, conducting numerous CM
studies, and presenting at conferences and seminars.
Richard is director and senior consultant at Ravenbrook Ltd. He has
conducted numerous product strategy, project management, and software
process consultancy engagements for various well known software
organizations including Symbian.
As VP of Engineering and Development for
Geodesic Systems, he created new product vision based on market analysis and
core competencies by managing requirements. He also planned and implemented
a program of software engineering process improvement, based on the
Capability Maturity Model.
Martin Waldron's professional career has been in the application of
Information Technology to business applications. He has held a range of
senior posts with system houses, software development companies and in-house
IT systems departments including the Canadian Government and ICL. He has
been a management consultant since 1987, when he founded In-Form Consult
Management Consultancy (www.inform-consult.com), which specialises in the
application of electronic document, record, content and work management
systems and Web technology to improve business processes.
Martin undertakes a number of speaking engagements both in the UK, Europe
and abroad. His papers include a paper on EDRMS strategy at the European
Commission DLM Forum in Barcelona May 2002 and at the IIR IM/EDRMS
conference in Dubai in March. The AIIM European Conference in Copenhagen,
info@ in London and Chairman at the MoReq conference in London. Martin
collaborated with the University of Northumbria in the development of post
graduate course in Information and Records managememnt which was
successfully launched at Warwick University in March 2003. Recent papers are
on the www.informsystems.co.uk web site. He was awarded by AIIM, the
International Association of Content/Document Management, in September the
AIIM Award of Excellence for his individual continuous contribution to the
Document and Content Management Field.
Co-author of the European Commission project to develop an Electronics
Records Management Model/Functional Specification - MoReq - that can be used
by organisations in assisting in the selection of ERMS/EDMS systems, assess
effectiveness of current Electronic Records Management practices and for
educational use. The model is drawing on existing standards such as US DOD
5015.2 ("Design Criteria for Electronic Records Management Software
Applications"), PRO- UK guidelines, ISO draft standard and other
initiatives.
Mayank is a qualified
PRINCE2 project manager and senior consultant in the field of content,
records, document and knowledge management. He is also a chartered
information systems practitioner. He joined EDS in 1996 and worked in their
document management services group as a systems engineer, consultant and
project manager implementing systems right across the UK. In 1999, Mayank
joined Tower Technology, a leading supplier of large-scale document
management and content management solutions. He held project management and
bid management roles here and was involved in several innovative and
leading-edge assignments both in the UK and Europe.
In 2002, Mayank founded CODO Limited, a successful impartial and unbiased
consultancy company offering independent advice and services on all aspects
of corporate information management including records, content, document and
knowledge management. He also works as an associated for other leading
consultancies that share the same set of values and ethics. When
permissible, he assists organisations on a voluntary basis with their
information management and content management requirements and helped the
British Computer Society with their web content management strategy.
Mayank is also group leader of the content management sub-group, part of
the Configuration Management Specialist group of the British Computer
Society (BCS).
John
Metcalfe has over 25 years experience of working in a variety of systems
environment. From his first day as a developer programmer to his current
role as an independent Process Mentor, he has developed processes and
procedures for improving the organisation's approach to delivering reliable
solutions to agreed timescales and budgets.
His experience ranges from real time systems for defence contracts, to
e-business solutions, to small software development contracts for small
businesses and worked with US, French, Polish as well as Polish customers
and subcontractors. His organisational experience ranges from large
multi-sited organisations to owning a small IT consultancy delivering
bespoke systems solutions employing up to 8 staff.
He has delivered training courses on behalf of LearningTree International
for over 6 years, specialising in Software Quality Assurance, Configuration
Management, Risk Management and Lotus Notes Development. John currently
provides a mentoring service to teams and organisations to help them to
evolve smarter and cheaper methods for developing reliable solutions whilst
meeting customer's expectations.
Linda
Newsom-Ray, MBCS, is a freelance consultant, with more than 20 years
experience in the IT industry, mainly in systems and software development
and project management. The 7 most recent years have been focussed in
improving project management practices, so that client companies can develop
software better, faster and cheaper. Linda has worked with major telecoms
and financial organisations across mainland Europe, Scandinavia and the US.
Tom
Brett has a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Cambridge
University and has spent 20 years working in Software Development, with a
strong interest in Configuration Management.
Tom has worked for blue chip companies such as Citibank, British Telecom,
3Com and Siemens before joining MKS as a consultant in 2001.
John is Technical Director of Actio Limited, a leading independent Change
and Configuration Management and Infrastructure consultancy recognised for
both their expertise in the field and commitment to the success of their
clients with advanced services covering every area from evaluation and
consulting through to in-depth training and troubleshooting.
John has extensive experience in both Change and Configuration Management
and the supporting infrastructure systems with an advanced background in
both hardware and software development environments spanning over 20+ years.
Having retired from being Chairman of the Configuration Management stream
of Rational's RUG-UK (including CCUKUG) after over three years, he has now
joined the committee of CMSG to share his experience with both Rational's
and other vendors' tools for the benefit of members and associates.
David Cuthbertson is founder and Managing Director of two specialist
network support companies. Kenson Network Engineering Ltd and Network 24
Ltd. He has been an active figure in the international Information
Technology and Communications industry since 1976.
In 1989 David set up Kenson to focus on troubleshooting services for
large networks demanding a flexible, fast and personal response. Kenson's
reputation for problem solving and the evolving networking market led to the
introduction of additional services. The Kenson PLAN training course and
other training courses were introduced. Kenson became the UK's largest
reseller of netViz.
In 1998 David set up Network 24 Ltd to address the need for network
infrastructure solutions for 24 hour mission critical networks. David has
played a key role in the implementation of network management tools and
solutions worldwide. He holds a senior position within the Network
Outsourcing Association.
With
thirteen years experience in technical and Management roles in the IT
industry, Greg joined Cap Gemini Ernst & Young in 1997 and is a Senior
Consultant. His Primary Role is to develop new, and improve existing
Configuration Management processes.
Greg has strong skills in strategic, tactical, and management aspects of
technology, and services provision. Creative, innovative and visionary, Greg
draws on his wide ranging practical experience and is able to communicate on
the business aspects to Senior Management as well as directly managing, and
motivating operational staff.
Steve
is involved in Pre-sales for all Serena Products. He has been in IT for 24
years, 5 years as an end-user, 9 years as a consultant, and 10 years in a
variety of roles in 3 software companies, Legent, Viasoft, and Serena.
Jeff is a consultant and trainer with wide experience in Silicon Valley.
He has also presented talks at several conferences on configuration
management topics. He has managed groups of software engineers, providing
timely and constructive feedback as appropriate. He has a firm reputation in
industry for organizational skills, filling a role that many software
development groups use to create a formal engineering structure in an
environment that’s often ad hoc.
Shirley has extensive configuration management experience across the life
cycle. She was the author of the OGC ITIL Service Support chapter on
Configuration Management and is a member of the British Standards committee
for developing the BS 15000 IT Service Management standard.
She is a director of ConnectSphere, a consultancy and education company
that specialises in service management and configuration management
solutions. Shirley has extensive experience in service and process
improvement across a range of industries and has managed many change,
configuration and release management implementations.
Shirley is the Chair of the BCS CMSG.
Michael is Treasurer of the BCS CMSG. He is also an officer (Treasurer)
of the System Dynamics Society's UK Chapter and a Fellow of the Chartered
Association of Certified Accountants.
Michael is a Principal Lecturer at South Bank University in the School of
Computing and Mathematics [SCISM], where he lectures and researches
strategic management and investment appraisal of Information Systems and
related modeling financial, management and planning topics and is also the
Director of Resources & Head of Business Development. He specialises in
the application of simulation Modeling (System Dynamics).
René has 25 years of experience in IT Development. He has 10 years of
experience in the field of Software Change & Configuration Management
and implemented SCCM processes in large organisations. He is co-founder of a
Dutch company specialised in SCCM.
Currently he is the European coordinator
of SCCM within the SQS Group (UK, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Austria,
Netherlands), is chairman of the SCCM-track during the SQM congresses (www.sqm.de)
and acting as a SCCM consultant in many companies.
Mark has been working in IT for over 20 years. Recent jobs include
Technical Services Manager and IT Director for a number of large
organisations. He joined Microsoft in 2002 to head up the Service Management
group within Business Critical Services, which is focused on providing
proactive and reactive services to Enterprise customers who are deploying
line of business and Mission Critical Applications on the Microsoft
platform.
Laura is the Vice President of Product Technology at Perforce Software.
She currently works with developers of new and emerging products, and
continues to work with customers in her role as Perforce product expert.
Prior to the inception of Perforce she developed tools and procedures for
building commercial software products at Sybase and Relational Technology
She has
presented at a number of international conferences, including SCM7 and SCM8.
Dominic Tavassoli joined Telelogic in December 1999 and has more than 10
years experience in the managing and adapting of advanced software products
and solutions in defense, automotive, financial and commercial industries.
As product marketing manager of CM applications and application lifecycle
management, his primary responsibility is to ensure current and new software
releases for the CM Synergy product line are in line with the market needs
and how all the best of breed products can be used together to support the
management of the application development lifecycle. Dominic is also
accountable for global market analysis, quantitative analysis, promotional
communications, sales tools, and channel support.
Prior to his current position, Dominic has been a pre-sales engineer for
Telelogic's Synergy products. Prior to Telelogic, he was a pre-sales
engineer for Ascent Logic Corporation, the Requirements Management pioneer
with the RDD product family and has identified & implemented processes
and best practices at Matra BAE Dynamics (now part of MBDA).
Rama Varsani is a Senior Consultant for Computer Associates in the United
Kingdom. She has significant experience in change and configuration
management (CCM), which is endorsed through her successful CCM
implementations. Rama provides assistance to companies in improving their
overall productivity via the implementation and automation of the complete
application development lifecycle process. Prior to working at CA, Rama has
held a number of roles in the field of software development, including
developer, tester, project manager and consultant.
Peter works for Symbian on software configuration management and is
responsible for the Perforce service there. A system manager and developer
by background, he joined Psion in 1994 and became part of Symbian when it
was formed in 1998, working as a development team leader. In 1999, he was
part of the team responsible for introducing new SCM tools into the company
and organizing the accompanying process changes and training. In an
expanding company, this area is always active and he's been involved with it
ever since.
Mark has 14 years experience in the development of software applications
ranging from mainframe and desktop based applications to safety critical
real-time embedded software systems. Mark joined Rational Software as a
Technical Consultant in the field of Configuration Management in February
1999. In this role Mark was responsible for the assessment of customer
requirements, the installation of products and subsequent customer training.
In January 2001 Mark took on a secondment to Marketing to be Product Manager
responsible for the Configuration and Change Management products for the UK
and Ireland. In this role Mark was responsible for the introduction of
products and new versions of existing products.
Mark has now returned to a technical role within the Rational software
Business Services sector to deliver configuration management solutions to
customers across the UK, Ireland and South Africa. Mark holds a bachelor
degree in Engineering and a Masters degree in Distributed Systems Design. He
is a chartered engineer and a member of the BCS.
Alan has 15 years of IT experience in North America and western Europe.
He is responsible for strategic planning into regulated industries for a SCM
vendor, Merant. He will be presenting about trends in medical industries
regarding the risks of automation and the changing regulations impacting SCM
applications.
Before Merant, he implemented a variety of complex systems as a
management consultant with Coopers & Lybrand.
