Ian Osborne is Director of the Grid Computing Now! Knowledge Transfer
Network, Vice President of Enterprise for the Open Grid Forum (a global
distributed computing standards body) and a Principal in the European FP7
Project, OGF-Europe. Grid Computing Now! is funded by the UK Government’s
Technology Strategy Board, and aimed at transferring the knowledge and
capabilities necessary to demonstrate the value of Grid Technologies in
public and private sectors. See
www.gridcomputingnow.org. Intellect is leading this project in
partnership with the National e-Science Centre in Edinburgh, a world leader
in Grid Technologies for e-Science. The project involves leading IT
suppliers, the UK e-Science community and a growing number of interested
business and academic professionals. Ian’s role with OGF,
www.ogf.org, is to ensure the relevance of
its global standards activities to the industrial agenda in private and
public sector. OGF-Europe,
www.ogfeurope.eu, aims to play a key role in influencing the drive
towards global standardisation efforts and in bringing best practices back
into the EU computing environment.
Ian has worked in ICT since 1972, with early stints at British Airways
and International Computers Limited. In 1979, Ian joined Hewlett-Packard
Limited where he enjoyed a substantial career working in Research &
Development, Quality and Marketing at HP locations in the US and UK. He held
senior management positions in HP’s European Research Laboratories and
Telecom Systems Business.
Ian has a Masters Degree in the Management of Technology, a joint degree
awarded by the Universities of Sussex and Brighton in 1992. He is a Member
of the British Computer Society and a Chartered Information Technology
Professional, a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and an
Associate Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Ian has a long history of working in the area of service management as a consultant for IBM.
He has helped many clients to improve the quality of IT service provided. He understands the
need for the appropriate balance of quality, cost, value and risk for a particular client. He
brings a wealth of experience in finding practical resolutions to client problems.
Ian has broad experience in the full lifecycle of IT management services. Although his focus
has always been on the operational side of IT, he has significant knowledge of the interfaces
between business, IT development and IT operations, particularly in the areas of change,
release and configuration management.
Ian is an active participant in both BCS and itSMF and is the chair of one of the itSMF
regions. He also speaks regularly at various BCS and itSMF meetings, seminars and conferences.
Particular areas of specialism include IT governance, business and IT integration and management of ‘green’ issues.

John Dixon MSc MBCS CITP
MRQA, GlaxoSmithKline
John is Director, Configuration Management Services at GlaxoSmithKline
(GSK), a role primarily engaged in improvement and establishment of a cross
IT enterprise-wide configuration management system. He is currently trying
to work out how to map virtualised environments and how to ensure data stays
accurate.
In his previous role at GSK, John established and ran a Quality &
Compliance organisation (as Director, Quality & Compliance) delivering an
effective management system while ensuring compliance with both
pharmaceutical regulations (GxP) and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX).
Prior to this John held roles as a senior Regulatory Auditor (telecoms),
in Quality Management (telecoms) and Design/Test Engineering (telecoms).
He graduated in Electronic Engineering (Birmingham Polytechnic) and has a
Master of Science Degree (MSc) in Business Information Technology
(Westminster). He is a Chartered IT Professional (CITP) and holds
professional membership of British Computer Society (MBCS) and British
Association of Research Quality Assurance (MRQA), where he also sits on the
computing committee.
John is also module advisor and principle lecturer on the Computer
Systems Audit module of the MSc in Quality Management in Scientific Research
and Development at Cranfield University.

Stephen has many years experience of integrating technology and business
strategies within large corporate organisations, the most recent being the
IT Director for Ernst & Young UK. Being head of IT and a key member of a
shared service organisation, Stephen had to deal with the many demands facing
senior management: i.e. do more with less, ensure service quality was not compromised,
embrace the concepts of outsourcing, and take advantage of the benefits of
globalisation, to name but a few.
Prior to holding a senior managerial position within a large corporation
Stephen held positions as a consultant for government departments and suppliers, and as a senior academic.
Successfully transforming an organisation is a complex operation that requires
a variety of skills to ensure that any change will be implemented in a way
that will realise benefits offered. Keeping that transformation as simple
and as workable as possible has been a primary focus over the years.
Recent publications include three papers with the British Computer Society
and a book on the importance of pragmatic management. Stephen is a Fellow of the BCS
and believes in the importance of promoting best practice through the BCS.

Rainer Heinold studied computer sciences at the University of Applied
Sciences, Augsburg, Germany. For more than 10 years he is supporting large
organizations in the adoption of state-of-the art SCM tools and
methodologies. In his current position he is responsible for all technical
activities of CollabNet in Europe.

Ian is a consultant with Bytes Technology Group, who are a reseller of
software licenses.
In a former company he was responsible for the procurement and management
of all IT assets. He then joined Bytes software asset management (SAM) team
to lead the process engineering function, and to promote SAM to the
marketplace.
He now manages the SAM process maturity function and provides consultancy
to help clients understand the maturity of their asset management implementation,
using in-house and industry maturity modeling techniques and SAM workflow reviews.
Based on ISO 19770-1, ITIL and industry best practice processes Ian helps
clients with technology mapping and integration, business cases, SAM reports, action plans and implementation plans.

In a 20 year IT career Stephen has been everything from a mainframe
developer, systems engineer, infrastructure architect and security
consultant to his most recent roles as a Web Operations Manager
responsible for high volume websites such www.totaljobs.com,
www.cwjobs.co.uk, and the re-launched www.tes.co.uk. Other UK clients
include Vodafone, CSFB, BNP Paribas, Schroders Investment and Zurich
Financial Services. Stephen was awarded CITP status in 2007 and
graduated with an MBA from Henley Management College in 2008.

Kevin Holland, NHS Connecting for Health
Kevin started his career in IT with a computer science degree in the days
when the pinnacle of computer graphics was Space Invaders. He then trained as a
software engineer, working on telephony, operating systems, and banking
systems. A move into manufacturing led to a rapid progression into IT
Service Management in a variety of industries manufacturing products as
diverse as worktops, wheel trims, widgets, bottles, buses and beer. Early
exposure to world class product development and quality assurance &
management techniques led to a specialism in introducing and improving IT
services. He is currently the Head of Service Quality Improvement for the
NHS National Programme for IT. In his spare time he helps to expand and
explore the world of IT service management, by reviewing publications,
presenting at events, active involvement in BSI working groups, and as a
member of the ISEB and APMG service management examination boards.

Matthew's career started in 1996 at a software house in the Midlands developing
applications for accountants. After initially working on the support lines, he
eventually ended up as a Release Engineer writing InstallShield scripts.
In 2000 he joined Egg as a Change Analyst and then Configuration Manager,
during which time we rolled out PVCS Dimensions. This experience taught him
many of the lessons he now relies on. In 2004 he decided to take redundancy
rather than move to Derby (it was too far from his other passion, Plymouth Argyle!).
He moved to Nationwide Building Society in Swindon working as a Release Manager
for 2 years then took the position of Systems Manager responsible for all
Release, Environment, Configuration and Support Management for the Internet
Bank development team. Whilst in the role he passed his ITIL v2 Managers
Certificate which he has found invaluable in his roles since.
In 2007 he joined Virgin Mobile as the Build and Environments Manager
heading a new team responsible for improving environment and build processes.
In February 2009 he was made Validation Support Manager responsible for
supporting the Media’s IT Validation team for Environment, Build, Non-functional testing and test tools.

Vawns Guest is a Problem Manager for CGI. This role involves customer
relationship management, the implementation of ITIL processes and aligning
existing processes to best practices / regulatory requirements such as
COBIT, ISO 20000 and SOX in addition to ITIL.
Vawns is a qualified ITIL Manager, a Microsoft Certified Professional
and is certified to foundation level for COBIT and PRINCE2.
Vawns was elected chair person of the itSMF CCRM Working Party in November 2007.

Steve Straker is a Process Architect working for Fujitsu Services Ltd
in the UK. He is an accomplished presenter and has more than 15 years of
practical experience in this subject. He is a Fellow of the Institute of
Service Management and also sits on the Management Board of the itSMF UK Chapter.
Steve has worked both for private and public sector organisations and
ran a successful consultancy business in the mid 90s. He has worked throughout
Europe, as well as New York and the Caribbean. He brings a pragmatic
approach to achieving what sometimes seems the hard and difficult.
He is presenting today with an industry colleague, Vawns Guest.

Richard is an Architect and Associate Partner at Citihub where he
is focused on helping Financial Services clients to create and use
agile infrastructures which realize CAPEX and OPEX savings.
Richard was previously Principle Architect at Microsoft, working
within their cloud services group where he was responsible for the
architecture of their management platform. He
developed the Data Centre model and led the team undertaking a build/buy
decision for the CMDB.
Richard has many years Data Centre experience working with Mainframe, UNIX,
storage, Grid and networking technologies.

Educated to MBA level, John has over 25 years experience in IT
applications. He has certificates for ISO 9000 Lead Assessor, Prince 2
Practitioner and ITIL V3 which formalises
his experience in IT Service Management.
He has provided guidance to IS department management in the development
and implementation of strategies for improving CC&RM policies, processes,
and tools selection to deliver ROI and benefits to the business and
development communities. He has fulfilled the roles of Release, Change,
Configuration and Vendor Relationship Managers, as well as Change
Coordinator and Configuration System Administrator until additional staff
could fill the positions.
He has developed ITT’s for selecting tools and provided guidance on
processes for managing the life cycle of third party tools in the Service
Management areas of Configuration Management, Release Management, and
Infrastructure Management.
As an independent training consultant he has delivered public courses on
CM in the UK, and Europe for Learning Tree International and Parity
Training. John has been a guest speaker at CM Tool Vendor User Group
Meetings and at the BCS Configuration Management Conferences since 2003.

David has been focused for many years on developing and applying
configuration management techniques to technical and service infrastructure.
More recently he has been developing techniques and toolsets that link
service management CMDBs to data centres, networks, storage and other
environments.
He is a regular speaker for both the BCS and ITSMF covering all aspects
of configuration management from strategic to tactical implementations.

Shirley is a co-author of the OGC’s ITIL® V3 Service Transition book with
Ivor Macfarlane. She has a wealth of service management experience and a great track
record in enabling customers to deliver real value and improvement.
She is Vice Chair of the British Computer Society (BCS): Configuration
Management Specialist Group. She represents the BCS on the BSI committee
that developed the IT service management standard, ISO/IEC 20000. She also
co-authored the BSI
publications on Achieving ISO/IEC 20000.
She brings practical knowledge and experience to her conference
presentations. She is an accredited ITIL trainer and she regularly organises
and facilitates workshops.

Robert has long been involved in software development with roles ranging
from analysis, design through testing and project management. He has spent
the last 10 years specialising in consultancy and training in change,
configuration and release management. He brings a sound theoretical
knowledge and applies it pragmatically to address the needs of both
developers and management.
He is Chair of the British Computer Society (BCS) Configuration
Management Specialist Group and has organised several conferences and many
other events for the group.
He is a Chartered Engineer with the BCS, and is a co-author of the Agile
SCM column in the CM Journal for CMCrossroads.com. He is also a 4th degree
black belt in Aikido.
