PROGRAMME

09:30 - 10:00 Registration and Coffee

10:00 - 10.05 Welcome Roy Harrow, Secretary

10:05 – 10:50  CM Case Studies

Tim Joyce Customer Services Director, Merant

Tim will present the advantages of having full Change and Configuration Management, compared with the straightforward source control that many organisations employ.  He will cover the full application life cycle, audit, meta-data, concurrent & parallel development and heterogeneous platforms.  Examples and case studies will be drawn from Merant’s implementation experiences in a range of organisations including the finance and pharmaceutical sectors.

10:50 – 11:20 Tea, Coffee and Networking

11:20 – 12:05 The CM of Testware

Steve Littlejohn, SIM Group

Configuration Management is well known for the control and management of hardware, software, netware and even “documentware”.  Placing this same level of control over testware is not as well known, leaving testware as the Cinderella of the configuration management world.  Test environments, test plans and scripts (both manual and automated) are often left behind to keep dust of the shelves.  Steve will use practical examples from case studies and testware implementations.  Steve works for the SIM Group as a Senior Consultant.

12:05 – 12:30 The CM Standards Family Tree

Neil White, Quintec Associates

Neil will give a short presentation on some of the significant developments and key aspects of current and emerging standards for use in the field of Configuration Management. He will explain where these standards may be used and some of the consequences in their use and their benefits in real life! Neil is a Senior Consultant at Quintec Associates where he is the Configuration Management Capability Manager.

12:30 – 13:30 Lunch and Networking

13:30 – 14:15 Shifting the Emphasis from Configuration to Change Management

John Parker, Actio Limited  (Presentation (PDF, 842kb))

A fresh look at how projects can be successfully delivered by focusing
on the features and fixes that are essential for each release.  Rather
than considering Change Management as something to bolt on to a
Configuration Management System, this session will put the case for
making Change Management the driving force behind all product
development activities.  Actio Limited are independent CCM and infrastructure consultants.

14:15 – 14:35 CM Clinic

An opportunity for you to bring along any CM related questions that you would like to discuss.  Questions will be collected during the day and can be on any CM topic, whether related to the rest of the agenda or not.

These sessions are a new idea in response to a feedback from previous meetings, so please bring along any issues that are vexing you at the moment for some “free consultancy” from the wealth of assembled wisdom.

 14:35 – 15:05 Tea, Coffee and Networking

 15:05 – 15:50 CM Tool Selection

Phil Hicks, Wall Street Systems

Phil will present the process that was used to select a CM tool for Wall Street Systems, a leading treasury software house. He will outline some of the problems faced, the approach that was used to select the best tool to meet the company's needs and many other learning points that will be useful to share.

15:50 – 16:10 Open Forum

An opportunity to raise any points that have arisen during the day.

16:10 – 16:30 CMSG Updates

Shirley Lacy, Chair CMSG

News of CMSG activities, including an update on professional development.
