10:05 – 10:50  Re-Using Software Asset Management Data

David Cuthbertson, Group Director, Nu Holdings

Many of the automated toolsets for software asset management focus on desktop audits and licensing. Configuration management principles suggest the same data could benefit other processes. 14:00 – 14:45 Flexible Configuration Management for a Component-based Software Asset Repository

Paper and Presentation

Tom Brett, MKS

The paper describes techniques for managing a repository of multiple re-usable software components. Business requirements, such as customer-specific product variants, may demand multiple concurrent product configurations assembled from the same software asset base. Parallel development potentially needs to be managed at both the component and product level, recognising that different products and components may have their own independent development life cycles.  The paper draws on real-life examples to illustrate how to achieve the necessary flexibility while maintaining an all-important degree of control over diverse configurations

14:45 – 15:15 Tea, Coffee and Networking

15:15 – 16:00 The ITIL SAM Guide and the Business Case for SAM

David Bicket, Senior Manager, Deloitte & Touche

David will cover two separate but related topics.  Firstly, he will give an introduction to the recently published ITIL SAM Guide, which he helped develop and write.  Secondly, he will address the issue of building a business case for SAM, as presented in the Guide, with additional case study examples.

16:00 – 16:50 BCS CMSG AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the CMSG is open to individual, corporate and student members only.  Each attendee will have a single voting right.  You might even want to stand for a committee post yourself!  We are always looking for willing volunteers to help further our aims.
